Monarch was selected by the IndieCade jury to be an official selection at the 2015 IndieCade, the “Sundance” of independent games. The game was hailed as “incredible” and reviewers noted that “it builds women and their actions into the facts and roles of the world without ever being heavy-handed in its approach. It exposes (and replaces) many assumptions that sit right on top of many board games –mostly assumptions about who is managing what resources.” Monarch was heralded as “a clear step forward for gender in board games” while at the same time “the game play stands up nicely on its own.”
